As part of a project with solar installation firm solarcentury the roof of the bridge has been covered with 4 400 photovoltaic panels providing up to half of the energy for london blackfriars. A solar roof with 4 400 panels has been unveiled on blackfriars bridge in central london.

Work on the blackfriars project began in october 2011. Its parapet contains over 4400 solar photo voltaic panels generating 50 of the stations electricity needs and around 900 000 kwh per year. It is the largest solar array in london. The first solar panel being fixed on to the bridge s roof.
